Description:
Serial #400-34746 U, 20 Ga. (3"), 26" VR barrels with excellent, bright bores (choked MOD. / IMP. CYL.). This shotgun retains 80-85% of the original blue finish on both the barrels and frame with silvering and fading at the muzzles, as well as along the high edges and bearing surfaces, most noticeably at the safety / barrel selector, and along the bottom of the frame. Both the forend and buttstock have had a thick varnish finish added with some minor handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered about. The forend has a slightly more ruddy color to the wood, whereas the buttstock has a more brownish tint. A black rubber KICK-EEZ recoil pad has been added that gives a length of pull that measures 13 1/2", and has a large chunk missing at the toe, as well as some further damage around the edge at the heel. The lock-up is firm, and the lever rests just left of center. This was originally either a display or evaluation gun and had a small “U" stamped into the tang just after the serial number when it was released for sale. The “U" denoted that the gun was “Used" by the factory, and was not a new, unfired example. Unsurprisingly, most of the “U" marked guns were sold to Ruger employees. This is an about good-near very good Red Label that needs a bit of work, but also has a rare and desirable factory marking. FFL
