This is a matching numbered, straight-sided barrel lug revolver with flared grip, and has an overall dull gray-brown patina with about 10-15% of the original bright blue still remaining on protected areas of the barrel, as well as some visible traces on the recoil shield as well. The revolver has the early style, square-backed cylinder with nearly complete Centaur scene, and a few areas of moderate-heavy pitting on the circumference. The walnut grips have numerous small handling marks and minor surface blemishes, but are still intact, with lovely feathering and wood grain visible under the remnants of the original piano varnish finish. The barrel fit is tight, without any lateral play or rattles, and the action lock-up is firm and positive. This is a splendid, honest example of a rare and desirable No. 3 Belt Model Paterson Colt, in fine-near excellent condition, and would make a stellar addition to any collection.
