True Pair of BELGIAN Antique “Deringer” Pistols
Matching Brace of .48 Caliber Pocket Pistols
Here we present a pair of antique Belgian Single Shot Percussion Pistols, made circa 1840 in Liege. These pistols are small but feature large, .48 caliber bores. They would have easily gone into a pocket or even the top of a boot for self-defense in mid-19th century Europe. They were very much like the European version of the iconic design of American Henry Deringer of Philadelphia. Very seldom have two such pistols remained together through the last 150+ years.
The frames are nicely engraved in the European style. Grips are hand checkered with nicely carved scallops near the frame. The bottom of each barrel is marked “M2” and the left side of the barrels bear Liege proof marks. Barrels are octagonal.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces bear matching, even, dark brown patinas. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in very good condition. The bores are smooth and dark. The actions are strong.
