Rare Pre-Production Browning BAR Grade IV Made for Browning Executive

Dexcription:
This is a Special Browning BAR Grade IV Semi-auto Rifle that was made for a former Browning ewxecutive at or around the time of the initial production in the late 1960's.  The Provenance of this rifle is the current owner's purchase from the late renknowned Browning collector and expert, Rod Fuller.  Mr. Fuller relayed to the owner that this rifle was acquired from a former senior Browning executive and one of several early models made for the then management team.  The serial number ot this rifle, which is unique since it contains just 3 digits (XX4) does not appear in the Browning / FN archives or serial number database.  The unique serial number corroborates the origins of this fine rifle.

This Grade IV rifle is in the desireable and versatile Cal. 270 with a  22″ tapered round bbl, flat rib extending from the action for approximately 4" and has open sights (flip up rear sight).   The Left side of the barrel near the forend is marked “Fabrique Nationale Herstal Belgique”.  The right side “Caliber 270 Only/ Patent Pending”. The top of the gray receiver is factory drilled and tapped for scope bases and has matching gray plug screws.  The sides of the action have well-executed game scenes that feature pronghorn antelope (right) and whitetail deer (left), each in turn surrounded by an elegant vine border pattern.  The left side of the action is signed 'Vranken' by the late master engraver Louis Vranken (deceased 1983).

The rifle is mounted on very nicely figured medium colored walnut, carved and point pattern  checkering on  pistol grip with matching checkering on the walnut forend.  This rifle stock is unique to this pre-production special in that the checkering does not feature the surrounding beading of later models and is also oil finished rather than the glossy finish on later production rifles.
The butt of the stock features an original Browning marked solid, composite black butt plate.  The stock features mounted sling swivel studs on the forend and rear of the stock.   The underside of the action features a continuation of the vine engraving onto the hinged magazine cover and onto the trigger guard with a typical Browning gold plated trigger.  This rifle is  accompanied with an original Browning Hartman travel case and manual. Weight 8 lb. 2 oz, LOP 13 3/4",  Aprroximate DAC 1 5/8 and DAH 2"

Provenance:
From the private collection of a gentleman Browning collector.(see above).

Condition:
Extremely fine, as new and likely to have been test fired only and unshot since leaving the factory.  The rifle retains its entire original factory finish and no wear at muzzle. The mechanics are new with a bright shiny, new bore.  The finely figured walnut stock contains the minimal (if any) handling marks.
