Antique Revolver TIME CAPSULE w/ Correspondence
Daguerreotype, Tool and Letters
Here we present an antique Belgian Pinfire Revolver, made circa the mid-19th Century. This is an interesting set as the fitted case contains various items kept like a keepsake or time capsule. There is a pocket-sized Daguerreotype of a uniformed soldier. The right grip of the revolver has a Civil War American military uniform button embedded into it. There is a small, Civil War-era gun tool with 3 different sized flathead screwdrivers. Finally, there are a series of letters from 1857 and 1858. One envelope is addressed “Richland MO” in “Oct 24” to “Miss Abbie Haywood/Manchester/N.H.” Letters appear to be between siblings Abbie, Nellie & Jeffrey Haywood. Westford (possibly Massachusetts) and Manchester, New Hampshire are referenced several times.
The overall condition of the revolver is good. The metal surfaces have a smooth, gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in good condition. The bore is clear with strong rifling. The action on this revolver is strong. The rest of the time capsule is in fine shape. The letters have been wonderfully preserved. Handwriting is quite clear. The gun maintenance tool is quite scarce today. Own a piece of family history!
