Payment Types Accepted: Credit Card, Certified Check, Money Order Description: CIVIL WAR-Era Antique ALLEN & WHEELOCK .42 Carbine VERY SCARCE #1002 Falling Block Single Shot Carbine Here we present an antique Allen & Wheelock Falling Block Carbine in .42 Allen Rimfire, made circa the early 1860s in Worcester, Massachusetts. Fewer than 2,000 of these rifles are thought to have been made in any variant. It is chambered in the very rare .42 Ethan Allen—later, the .42 Forehand & Wadsworth. It features a half-octagonal, half-round barrel with a very neat rear tangent sight. The rear sight tips and its arm points to various ranges which also have notches which allow the arm to rest in under spring tension. Sling swivels and a crescent butt plate round out the list of handy features on this slim and lively rifle. The top of the barrel is marked “ALLEN & WHEELOCK/ALLEN’S PAT. SEP. 18. 1860”. The rear sight has a small hole added which allows a small screw to be tightened down to achieve no elevation movement in the sight. The front sight appears to be from a Winchester with a patent date of Nov. 4, 1902. The rear sling swivel was moved to the right side of the butt stock. These very interesting modifications suggest that this rifle saw continuous use through the early 20th Century. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are smooth with slight pitting in a couple areas. A light gray patina is developing. The serial numbers match. The walnut stock is in very good condition, smooth and showing normal handling marks. The bore is sharp and bright. The action is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .42 Allen Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
