ANTIQUE Winchester Model 1894 LEVER ACTION Rifle
Chambered in .32-40 WCF & Made in 1898
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle, made in 1898 in New Haven, Connecticut. Production lasted from 1894 to present day with over a million produced. Relatively few of that number were produced prior to 1899, the date set by the ATF that designates whether a firearm is considered an “antique” or not. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm lies with John Moses Browning. The model 1894 was the fist Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder. In all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.
This rifle features a round barrel in .32-40. The rear sight is a two-leaf flip up design. The top of the tang is marked “MODEL 1894/WINCHESTER/PAT. AUG. 21 1894”. The top of the barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” The rear of the barrel is marked “32-40”.
The overall condition is very good. The original blue finish is about 20%. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock shows light handling and is in very good condition. The bore is in near fine condition, clean with sharp rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a great 120 year old Winchester 1894!
