Description:

Antique SPRINGFIELD US Model 1795 Flintlock Musket

War of 1812 Infantry Musket Dated “1811”

Here we present an antique Springfield US Model 1795 Flintlock Musket, made in 1811 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This was the first standardized musket made specifically for the US, by an American armory, and the first by Springfield Armory. It was heavily influenced by the French Charleville, a very good musket that the colonists used against the British during the American Revolutionary War. At this time, the Americans maintained a stock of the weapons, making them easily duplicated. Production lasted until about 1814 and the Model 1795 saw action in the War of 1812 (1812-15) along with many conflicts with Native Americans.

This musket was made the year prior to the outbreak of the War of 1812. The lock is marked “US/SPRINGFIELD/1811” with an early style Federal Eagle. The top of the butt plate is also dated “1811”. The top of the barrel is marked “P” and “V” along with an eagle’s head. The left side of the stock is marked “US”. The left side iron mount is marked “E/E/363135012091”.

The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces were finished bright and they have a light brown patina. The markings are clear. The stock shows typical handling marks with a repair around the lock. The smooth bore is in good shape with a bit of dust. The action is very strong. Here is a scarce, early US Flintlock Musket that was made just in time for the War of 1812!
