Description:
Beautiful Lancaster single shot in excellent condition on a Henry 1865 patent action. I do not know the original cartridge this rifle was chambered in but it was rebarreled by Holland & Holland at some point in the 375 NE 2.5 cartridge (not the magnum). When I got the rifle the 375 cartridge was unknown to me and I had it rebarreled to 405 WCF which has the same head size as the 375 2.5 ergo no extractor modification was necessary. The H&H barrel was used as a model to contour the 405 barrel so the original forend could be used. The new barrel is 3"  longer at 28in. The H&H barrel is 25in. long. The 405 has a perfect bore and the 375 bore is shiney with some throat frosting and no apparent evidence of rust. The rifle has gorgeous lumber and is in beautiful shape as can be seen by the pix. There is about 80% coverage of crisp engraving on the action. At sometime in its life the stock was either broken or cracked and shows a very professional repair and restoration, probably done in England. I have had it and shot it for several years with no indication of looseness. It weighs 8 lbs. with the 405 barrel on it. Sights are a modern bead front and a single leaf express rear. LOP is 14" to a steel butt plate. This is not a switch barrel rifle - if the buyer wants the 375 barrel back on the rifle it would have to be fitted by a gunsmith. More pix available. I will split shipping to contiguous states. I will consider any Ballards (especially), 1885 Winchesters, Hepburns, Stevens 44's or 44 1/2's, or Maynards as part or even trades.
