The Webley RIC model was Webley’s first double-action revolver and adopted by the RIC in 1868. It is a solid frame, gate loaded revolver. General George Armstrong Custer was known to have owned a pair, which he is believed to have used at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. It was a very successful design that was additionally made in Belgium. This one features a frame mounted safety lever which prohibits the pulling of the trigger or cocking of the hammer until released. The frame and cylinder bear several Belgian proof marks. The right side of the frame is marked “CAL 450”. The grip frame bears the maker’s mark of Jean-Baptiste Rongé. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear. The bore is clean with good rifling. The walnut grips are in good shape. The action on this revolver is strong. Cylinder revolution is intermittent.
