Description:

Antique US SPRINGFIELD Model 1795 FLINTLOCK Musket

Musket Used for War of 1812

Here we present an antique Springfield US Model 1795 Flintlock Musket, made circa 1813 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This was the first standardized musket made specifically for the US, by an American armory, and the first by Springfield Armory. It was heavily influenced by the French Charleville, a very good musket that the colonists used against the British during the American Revolutionary War. At this time, the Americans maintained a stock of the weapons, making them easily duplicated. Production lasted until about 1814 and the Model 1795 saw action in the War of 1812 (1812-15) along with many conflicts with Native Americans.

This musket was originally built in 1807 according to the date on the butt plate. The lock was replaced at some point with another example from Springfield dated “1813”. The lock is marked “US/SPRINGFIELD” and “1813”. The top of the barrel is marked “P” and “V” along with an eagle’s head. The trigger assembly is marked “F. COY”. The left side of the butt stock has been hollowed out to suit the shooter’s face.

The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The barrel tang is a replacement. The markings are mostly legible. The walnut stock has been repaired at the lock. The fore stock has some deep dents but no cracks. The smooth bore is dark and dusty. The action is strong.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 40-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .69

Overall condition as seen in photos.
