Description:

WWII Nazi GERMAN “42” Code Mauser LUGER Pistol

Dated “1940” Over the Chamber

Here we present a World War II Nazi German Military “42” Code Mauser Luger Pistol, made in 1940 in Oberndorf, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.

This WWII dated Luger Pistol is code marked “42” for the Mauser Werke factory. The German rearmament during the inter-World War years was done in secret, flaunting the terms of the harsh Treaty of Versailles, which put strict limitations on German weapons manufacturing and the size of the military. However, Germany had invaded Poland, starting the war, in 1939. Year dates of manufacture had also been coded, but there was little point anymore. This one is dated “1940” and bears Third Reich military proof and acceptance marks on the right side of the chamber. It was refurbished at some point with parts from another pistol. Frame and small parts came from one pistol, while the barrel, chamber and toggle parts came from another.

The overall condition is fair. The remaining finish is about 15%. The markings are clear. The serial numbers are primarily from two pistols. The grips are quite worn. The bore is dark and nearly smooth. The action is functional though stiff. Here is a well-used example of a Nazi German Luger Pistol that made it through the Second World War.
