This is a particularly fine example of the last of the famed 1903 Springfield rifle that was made for the U.S. Government during the 2nd. World War. Most of these had the straight stock, but some were made from stock blanks that didn’t have enough wood to make a full pistol grip, but had enough to make the “scant” pistol grip stock. This is one such example. This rifle is unaltered and retains the correct peep rear sight etc. It retains all the parkerized finish with blued bolt, and has a mint, bright bore. The stock and hand guard are generally excellent showing only light handling and the stock is deeply cartouched on the left side “C-S.S.A.” with a “P” behind the bottom of the pistol grip. The receiver is marked with the usual ‘U.S. Remington Model 03-A3” and serial number 4016XXX. Behind the rear sight is the date “12-43” with flaming bomb etc. An excellent example with a not often seen stock style.
