Description:
Serial #283, 9mm Para., 4" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves near the chamber mouth. This is one of about 1,000 pistols ordered by the Portuguese Navy and has the distinctive Crown and Anchor chamber marking. The pistol has mostly matching numbers, however the take-down lever is numbered to a different gun and the sideplate has been heavily buffed on the exterior, leaving it a dull pewter gray with rounded edges. The remainder of the metal has retained 80-85% of the original blue finish with even silvering along the high edges and projections, as well as on the bearing surfaces of the toggle and bolt (with “CARREGADA" marked extractor). The toggle pin is an unmarked replacement, and is finished in-the-white. The checkered wooden grips are in very good shape, with some flattening of the points and some chips missing from the top of the left panel. The pistol comes with an incorrect, but period wood-base magazine, and is housed in a dark brown, WW1 era German holster that has numerous small scuffs and blemishes along the exterior, as well as a Bavarian Artillery unit stamp on the inside of the cover flap. The interior lip has been crudely widened by hand to allow for more of the pistol to be exposed, and an unmarked takedown tool is included. The '06 Royal Portuguese Luger is one of the least commonly encountered foreign contract pistols. This example rates about good condition overall. FFL or C&R
