Payment Types Accepted: Postal MO & Cashiers check Personal or business check treated as lay-a-way, no returns Description: Tower short rifle with 2 forend bands, cleaning rod, brass tip, trigger guard and buttplate. Lock dated 1863. Very good overall condition with clear original British markings as well as the later Japanese markings. Japanese characters on the barrel indicate registration in the Fuji Yoshida area, Yamanashi Perfecture. The militia, Soryu-Tai, was formed as part of Japans civil war, known as the Meiji Restoration, between the forces of the Shogun and those priests & samurais who wanted the Emperor returned to power. Included with this historic piece is a letter from Francis C. Allan with full translations of the Japanese characters on the barrel and the wooden tag, and an autographed copy of the book, "Japanese Imported Arms of the Early Meiji Era", which he co-authored. This piece is fully functional having been fired by the owner. Wood is solid, still showing clear English marking behind the trigger guard, with the brass, barrel and lock showing there original patina. A very well kept piece with slight wood damage under cleaning rod chanel just below the top barrel band. (see photo) SOLD Antique: Yes |
