Description:
James Purdey 577 (Alex Henry) Express Falling Block Single Shot. This exquisite rifle carries black
powder proof marks and is chambered for the 2 3/4" 577 Express Cartridge. The embellished barrel
banner reads," James Purdey 314 1/2 Oxford Street London. The action is engraved, "Alex'r Henry
patent with the typical left side hammer position and stepped lockplate. Bore is excellent. Barrel is
fitted with a single standing rear sight engraved 100 yds and inlaid with platinum center line. Wood
is very good showing a few handling marks, typical for the age of the rifle. The steel butt plate is
finished with a pleasing rounded peak at the heel, rather than the typical pointed widow's peak.
Overall a fantastic rifle that exhibits the best of two highly renowned British and Scottish Gunmakers.
