Description:
This is a beautiful all-original World War 2 production Swedish Lahti M40 pistol rig made by Husqvarna that is also Danish Police marked "Rplt. S 5551".  The Lahti M40 pistol is the Swedish version of the Finnish L35 pistol which served the Finnish military from 1935 thru the Winter War and beyond.  The Swedish military bought the licensing in 1939/40 and renamed the L35 the M40, with Husqvarna producing the pistol under government contract.  It's design is both robust and reliable.  It was designed to work reliably in Arctic conditions that rendered other automatic pistol designs inoperable.  This particular example is serial number 68229 and was made in 1944.  What makes this particular M40 unique is that it is one of 2000 pistols produced for the Danish exiles being trained in secret in Sweden to fight the Nazis.  The serial range for these particular weapons is 67,000 to 69,202, and they were all inspected by Captain Sten Stenmo (SS stamp at rear of frame).   It then made it's way into Danish Police use after World War 2 ended and was stamped with the Danish Police property marks "Rplt. S 5551" at that time.  When the Danish Police changed to another model sidearm these M40's were sold as surplus whereupon this particular pistol was imported into the States.  It is import marked on the left side of the frame in small lettering "C.D.I. Swan V.T." over "Sweden M40 9mm".  This M40 is in great shape overall and as mentioned previously, comes complete with an original service belt, holster, and "Sam Browne" shoulder strap.  The original blue finish rates 90 to 93% with light finish wear on the high edges & grip straps, and scattered small handling/storage marks.  The bore in this M40 is superb.  The rifling still has sharp lands and grooves and there is zero pitting or erosion visible.  The checkered brown plastic grips are also in excellent condition.  They are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The checkering and the Husqvarna logo are crisp and clean on these grips.  Mechanically this pistol works 100% like the day it left the factory 74 years ago.  The action works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly.  All of the controls work as they were designed to.  This pistol should function flawlessly.  The original holster, extra magazines, belt, and shoulder strap are in great shape.  The leather is still pliable, soft, and strong.  All of the stitching is original and intact, and all of the hardware is still intact and in excellent condition.  The two additional magazines are in excellent condition with good feed lips, nice intact factory original blue finish, and strong springs.  If you have been looking for a nice M40 Lahti rig for your collection here is a chance to get a particularly interesting example that is complete and all-original!
