Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1915, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, SK/LM, LOP 14 3/4" rear trigger, DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: 300426

The A.H. Fox C Grade guns are considered by many to be the most attractive of the Fox guns.  There are higher grades, but the C Grade engraving is elegant.  The 16ga. C Grade is a rare gun, as they only produced 305 C Grade Fox guns in 16ga. and only 202 came from the Philadelphia factory.  Fox guns with straight stocks make up only about 10% of the guns built, so there are only about 30 or so on the planet with the desirable English style grip.  If you want an original Fox CE 16 with a factory straight grip, it could take years to find one.  This CE 16, sn300426 built in 1915, was shipped with an unusual stock configuration that was a pistol grip Monte Carlo style with a short LOP at 13 ½” to a Silvers pad, no grip cap…see the attached order card.  The present stock is a replacement stock made to Fox factory shape and checkering patterns with longer LOP and great shooting dimensions, not to mention a gorgeous piece of European walnut.  It is also only about 1 of 30 or so CE 16’s that shipped with a factory Fox/Kautzky single selective trigger, another rare feature that is near impossible to find.  Anyone who has handled the Fox 16ga. graded guns realize they are all built on the 20-gauge frame and are light and finely balanced double guns that are a delight to carry afield.  Balanced on the hinge pin and weighing just 6lbs. 3oz., this CE is delightful in hand.  Most Fox collectors are aware that the engraving from the 1915 era is superior to later or earlier Fox CE guns you will see.  The wood-to-metal fit is perfect, as are the screws.  The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, with excellent bores.  All of the finishes; wood, barrels, trigger guard, and receiver retain 99% condition.  The case color are bone and charcoal which is proper on a Fox made in 1915, and look to be original.  Maybe they were done some time ago and have just faded to that perfect patina.  Regardless, they look great and correct on the gun.  What a great Fox gun for all your upland needs and sporting clays when those vintage shoots come up.  The Fox CE 16ga. is highly sought after and the values continue to rise, so don’t let this one get away from you.  Thanks for looking!
