Description:
U.S. Property Remington 40X single shot .22 LR Military Training rifle. Manufactured in May of 1961, this rifle was purchased by the United States Government and had a military designation of M12. These rifles were used by college ROTC programs, service academies, and competitive teams from the various service branches. This rifle is in excellent condition as sold by the CMP program, and includes the original Redfield Olympic front and rear sights, scope blocks, and hand stop. The original box and CMP paper work are not present. The rifle retains approximately 95+% of its original blue finish. The walnut "marksman" style stock is also in fine condition, exhibiting various handling marks that are typical of a match rifle that has been used, but well taken care of. These and other miltary .22 training rifles were long ago sold off by the CMP and the 40X is one of the more difficult variations for collectors to find. Due to the demand for the 40X as a shooter, prices keep climbing and high condition examples are getting harder to find. This particular rifle was part of the collection of Howard P. Hart and a certificate of provenance is included with the purchase.
