Here we present an antique Ames U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber, made in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. The Model 1860 was designed to replace the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, which was indeed heavier. However, the Light versus Heavy distinction had more to do with how heavy the armament of the cavalry unit was. The right side of the ricasso bears “U.S.”, the inspector mark “A.D.K.” The left side of the ricasso bears the maker’s mark “AMES MFG. CO/CHICOPEE/MASS”. This example is in good shape and looks like it has been there and done that. The brass guard and quillon has been battered and has a dark, aged patina. The wire wrap on the grip remains tight and intact with the leather wrap underneath somewhat deteriorated. The blade has a gray patina with mostly legible markings. The scabbard is dark and in good shape. A nice Civil War Saber for display! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $925 #7141.1 SOLD |
