Wicked CUTLASS-Style 19th C Clip Point Bowie Knife
With Long 21-1/2” Blade & Finger Ring Guard
Here we present an antique Cutlass-Style Bowie Knife, made circa the mid-19th Century. This knife is absolutely wicked and might as well be called a sword for its 21-1/2 inch blade. Blade still retains somewhat of an edge even on the clip point. The handle is short and round, and the cross guard includes a finger ring for retention and control. This piece is unmarked and almost certainly made by a local blacksmith and could possibly have been made in the South during the American Civil War. This was a period when a purpose-built fighting knife was absolutely necessary given the lack of materials and craftsmen to make proper swords for the troops. The overall condition is good. Iron parts have a dark patina.
