CIVIL WAR Antique AMES Model 1840 NCO Sword
War Dated “1864”
Here we present an antique Ames U.S. Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officer Sword, manufactured in 1864 in Chicopee, Massachusetts by the Ames Manufacturing Company. The Model 1840 NCO was adopted in that year and issued to sergeants as a secondary weapon. It saw use primarily during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.
The left side of the ricasso is marked “U.S./J.H./1864”. The right side of the ricasso is marked “AMES MFG.CO./CHICOPEE/MASS”.
The overall condition is very good. The blade is 32 inches in length and has a nice, smoky patina.
