Description:
This is a Browning Superposed P-1 Broadway Trap and Skeet two barrel target set that was engraved and signed by Browning Master Engraver J. Baerten. It is a 12 gauge with 2-3/4" chambers. There is a set 32" trap barrels that are choked Imp-mod and Full and a set of 28" barrels that are marked Skeet & Skeet, but actually measure IC/IC. The bores are bright and shinny. The gun has the wide "Broadway" ventilated rib. The front sight is a red Bradley style bead with a small ivory mid bead. The gun is marked "MADE IN BELGIUM" with the Utah and Montreal address also stamped on barrel and it was manufactured in 1978. This gun features the coin finished action with a gold plated single selective trigger. It is engraved with near full coverage of a pointing dog on both sides and beautiful oak leaf clusters the bottom of the action. The trigger guard has matching oak leaf decoration. Only the right side scene is signed "J. Baerten". The stocks are beautifully figured American Black walnut with a flat knob long tang buttstock (FKLT) measuring 14-3/8" over an original Browning recoil pad. The checkering pattern is 25 lines per inch and crosses over the top of the grip. Each set of barrels has a matching forend and they are beavertail style. DAC measures 1 5/8" and DAH measures 1 7/8" and the weight is approximately 7 lbs. 12 oz. This gun comes with a factory Browning Airways luggage style case lined with white fleece and includes the instruction manual. Out of the 584 P-1 guns produced only 29 had extra barrels, only 24 were Broadways and only 18 were skeet. These combinations make it about 2-3% of total production. This gun is in in excellent condition with only the slightest of handling marks on wood and none on the metal. The triggers are mechanically crisp. The case is in excellent condition with some slight soiling from storage of the firearm. The Browning Superposed book by Ned Schwing states that only a handfull of these P-1 guns were hand engraved so this is a very special gun.
