The left side plate shows four Wild Jaeger(Roe deer) in a wooded scene, the right side plate shows two English Setters chasing two partridge , the underside of the receiver shows a capercaillies(wood grouse). The trigger guard shows two ducks. The water table is stamped with the pre-war/wartime "BSW" code for Berlin-Suhler Waffen und Fahrzeugwerke. An Febuary 1953 date ("253") is stamped on the underside of the lower barrel at the breech. After WWII BWS was returned to East Germany and the guns were marketed as Merkel's and Simson's as well as under other names. It is not uncommon to find East German guns with pre-war/wartime parts that were factory completed years after the war. This firearm was handled more then fired.
