Description:
This is an excellent and antique US Springfield Krag Model 1898 bolt action rifle chambered in 30-40 Krag. Barrel is 30" with an excellent, bright strong bore. The receiver, magazine and sideplate retain strong original oil quenched color. The barrel, upper and lower bands and trigger guard retain about 95%, 92% and 98% original blue respectively. The bolt body is in the white with the top of the extractor retaining about 92% fading but original fire blue. The safety knob is case colored; the top nearly a dull gray patina with the bottom showing strong color. The walnut stock has been lightly cleaned and has what we believe to be a tastefully added light coat of oil leaving visible "1898" cartouche and "Circle P" proof. There is a tight and in place 1 1/2" crack at the muzzle end of the handguard as well as a narrow sliver of wood missing on the bottom of the front right of handguard. Stock has a few scattered dings, scratches and bruises. The rifle has a Model 1896 rifle rear sight. An extremely fine example with a great bore ready for a place in your collection.
