Antique STARR 1818 Contract CAVALRY Saber

Here we present an Antique U.S. Starr 1818 Contract Cavalry Saber, made in Middletown, Connecticut circa 1818. This cavalry saber is very similar to the 1812 Contract version, which was based on the British Pattern 1796 Dragoon Saber. This saber features a wide, curved blade and a simple stirrup style guard.
The ricasso is marked “US/P/LS/STARR”. The inspector’s initials are for Luther Sage.
The overall condition is fair. The iron parts have a dark patina with weathered texture. The markings are mostly clear. The marked area on the right side of the blade has been buffed. The blade is mostly bright. The scabbard is in very good condition.
