CIVIL WAR Antique AMES US Model 1840 NCO Sword
War Dated “1864”
Here we present an antique Ames Model 1840 Non-Commissioned Officers Sword, manufactured in Chicopee, Massachusetts circa 1864. The Model 1840 NCO was adopted in that year and issued to sergeants as a secondary weapon. It saw use primarily during the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.
The left side of the ricasso is marked “AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS.”. The right side is marked “US/A.H.K./1864”. Inspector’s initials are for Albert H. Kirkham.
The overall condition is good. The blade is 32 inches in length with a light gray patina. Markings are clear.
