Description:
EARLY 1898 KRAG RIFLE #191XXX WITH VERY SHARP AND CORRECTLY CORRESPONDING 1899 CARTOUCHE. This is a particularly fine example of a U.S. Military rifle that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in unaltered, cartouched condition. Tight action with nice deep mottled gray receiver, extractor still retains some nice fire blue finish, original 1898 rear sight that has not been upgraded to any of the later Krag sights which is usual, barrel blue and bayonet lug/barrel band is thinned but not cleaned and still retains good color. Excellent butt stock, forend and handguard- butt stock has the remnants of an aged stenciled “2” rack number on the right side. Correct sling swivels, particularly deep, sharp and excellent circle P and dated cartouche. Bore a bit dark and would benefit from a good scrubbing to be fine or better. This is a very attractive early 1898 Krag rifle that has not been updated or altered.
