WINCHESTER SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION 1906-2006 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE IN .30-06 CALIBER. This is a quality re-introduction of the great 1895 carbine made to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of the equally great .30-06 cartridge. The top left of the receiver is marked “1906-2006 CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF .30-06 SPRINGFIELD.” The receiver ring has the usual Winchester proof mark plus “.30 GOV. 06” over “.30-06 SPRINGFIELD.” The upper tang is marked “WINCHESTER” over “MOD. 1895.” There are no other markings visible. This is a fine reproduction of the original 1895 saddle ring carbine that retains the original style military ladder rear sight with slide, matching walnut handguard, saddle ring and even has the sliding door trap in the carbine butt plate for cleaning rod storage (a nice touch). Another feature I like is that the rear of the left side of the receiver is pre-drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. Nicely finished and nicely figured walnut stock, forend and handguard. Richly and deeply blued overall. This one is about new and unfired with all paperwork in the original box (some of the Styrofoam only missing) with the original end label and factory printed serial number (this one is numbered in the 003XX range. Has only the most minor of storage marks in the wood that you would have to look very, very carefully to notice. I’m not sure how many of these fine carbines were made, but this is the first one I’ve seen.
