Description:
General Specs: L.C. Smith, Year 1935, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 8oz, SK1/SK2, LOP 14 1/4", DAH 2 1/4", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: FWE140315

L.C. Smith made some fabulous guns, and those that enjoy shooting and collecting these guns should take note on this one!  The L.C. Smith Skeet Special was made by Hunter Arms Co. between 1926 and 1948, building a total of only 778 of this grade in all gauges, most of them 12ga. guns.  When you look at the 20ga. Skeet Specials, only 123 were made during the entire production period, which is truly a rare gun.  Of the 123, only 28 came from the factory with 27” barrels, as this one did in 1935.  We have ordered a Cody Firearms Museum letter for the gun that will be part of the purchase, and we have confirmed the gun shipped just as she sits now.  Serial number FWE140315 left the factory as a fully-optioned skeet gun, with Hunter One trigger, ejectors, Skeet style beavertail forend, English style grip, a checkered butt, and double ivory beads.  What a graceful and sleek gun they created, and the wood is very nicely figured.  This gun did not see a lot of use, as it has mirror bores, is tight on breech face and the hinge pin like a new gun, retains 98% of its barrel blue, 70% factory case color, 98% factory charcoal blue on the trigger guard, perfect screws, superb wood-to-metal fit, no cracks or repairs anywhere.  We have stripped the action and forend mechanism to its smallest parts, cleaned them in the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all parts for function and integrity, lubricated all properly, and reassembled.  This makes the gun a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  Who does that on an 83-year-old gun?  The Skeet Special was designed for competition and heavy shooting, having a reinforced forend lug exactly like their 3” Long Range Waterfowl gun, and a reinforcing bolt that runs through the forend wood and fastens to the forend iron for the ultimate in reinforcement.  Choked SK1/SK2 (.006/.011, the left barrel being a bit tighter than IC), it is perfect for skeet, most sporting clays courses, and any of your close flushing upland game.  Finding rare guns with desirable features and lots of factory original condition is the magic formula for investment quality guns and this gun hits it out of the park.  The gun has been carried and shot throughout its life so you can take her afield without worry, and at 6 1/2lbs. she is just right for the field and the clays course.  The stock dimensions are very modern at 14 ¼” LOP from a rear-position trigger, with 2 ¼” drop at heel and 1 1/2” drop at comb.  The stock is long, as if this gun had a front position second trigger, the LOP with the existing wood would measure 15 1/8”.  A rare find with very desirable features, don’t hesitate or this one will be gone.  The opportunity is rare, and the gun is awesome.  Thanks for looking!
