Antique WINCHESTER 1892 Lever Action .38 WCF Rifle
Made in 1896
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .38 WCF, made in 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years.
This rifle features a 24-inch octagonal barrel chambered in .38 WCF, which would have made in a great companion to a revolver in the same caliber. The top of the barrel reads “MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A”. The breech end of the barrel is marked “38 WCF”. The receiver tang is marked “MODEL 1892 -WINCHESTER- PAT. OCT.14.1884”.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have turned a dark, even plum over the last 122 years. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in great shape. The bore is clean with good rifling. The action on this rifle is excellent.
