Antique REMINGTON No. 1 ROLLING BLOCK Target Rifle
Fine Condition .38 Caliber with Target Sights
Here we present an antique Remington Number 1 Rolling Block Target Rifle, made circa 1880 in Ilion, New York. The Remington Rolling Block was as rugged, robust and popular as it was simple. These single shot rifles were adopted by a great many militaries the world over, even as repeating rifles were becoming more mainstream. Many were also purchased by individuals for anything from target practice to meat hunting.
This Remington No. 1 Rolling block features a 30-inch octagonal barrel chambered in .38 Short. The front sight is an adjustable folding globe/blade. There is an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight mounted on the barrel. The tang bears an adjustable long-range peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked “E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION.N.Y.” The right side of the frame bears the patent dates. The underside of the barrel is marked “38”—denoting caliber. Further, toward the breech and underneath the forearm there is “NY 6 S.T.”
The overall condition is fine. The original blue finish is 80% intact. Case colors on the frame are vibrant. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The stock is in great shape. The bore is very fine, sharp and bright. The action on this rifle is excellent. Here is a fantastic example of a Remington Rolling Block No. 1!
