1920 WINCHESTER 1892 Lever Action .25-20 WCF Rifle
With Full Octagonal Barrel
Here we present a Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in 25-20 WCF, made in 1920 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years.
This Model 1892 features a 24-inch octagonal barrel chambered for .25-20 WCF. The top of the barrel reads “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A”. The breech end of the barrel is marked “25-20 WCF”. The receiver tang is marked “MODEL 1892 -WINCHESTER- PAT. OCT.14.1884”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces have turned a dark, even plum over the last 100 years. The markings are legible. The walnut stock has a bit of wobble where it meets the tang. The right side of the forestock lost a 6-inch sliver long ago. The bore is dark. The loading gate is absent. Front sight blade is missing. The action on this rifle is strong. Here is one that appears to have been there and done that!
