Antique WINCHESTER Model 1892 RIFLE in .38 WCF
Made in 1894
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Rifle in .38 WCF, made in 1894 in New Haven, Connecticut. Another fantastic design from the mind of John Moses Browning, the 1892 was made to replace the venerable and iconic 1873 and featured its pistol caliber chamberings. The result was a trim and light rifle that was an immediate hit and stayed in production for almost 50 years.
The Model 92 features a 24-inch octagonal barrel chambered for .38-40 WCF. Like the Model 1873 it was replacing, it was a great rifle to pair with a Colt revolver in the same caliber, making ammunition logistically simpler, especially when one lived in remote areas. The top of the barrel reads “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A”. The breech end of the barrel is marked “38 WCF”. The receiver tang is marked “MODEL 1892 -WINCHESTER- PAT. OCT.14.1884”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good shape. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action on this rifle is excellent.
