What makes this Sharps unique is it is one of the few remaining carbines that was issued to the buffalo Solider units that fought with distinction in the Indian wars. This particular carbine wsa issued to F Co of the 10th Cav. and is so marked. F Co. has the distinction of fighting and surviving at the battle of Saline river which is a very good read. The original 3 groove bore reamins in well above average condition showing use but strong visible rifling and is not all pitted up or dark. The predominance of the lettering, legends, and patent dates on the gun are strong and visible wit the exception being the new model marking on the barrel which is faint. and legible. Original rear sight. traces of finish are visible the metal is smooth and no signs of deep pits or marring. The left side of the stock shows saddle wear the right side is very good condition as shown in the photos. The only flaw to the rifle is the front sight base has broken along the center line of the pin hole so the front sight is missing. This is a rare and unique piece of history that rarely come on the open market and is in above average condition when compared to those that have. SOLD Antique: Yes |
