Description:
.44 S&W American caliber.  8" barrel, fluted cylinder, breaktop action with walnut grips.  Finished blue with casehardened hammer and triggerguard.  One of only 1000 revolvers ordered in January of 1871 by the U.S. Army of which 796 were finished blue.  U.S. inspector's stamps "j" and "o" are present on the appropriate parts and the "OWA" cartouche though faint is visible on the the left grip.  Retaining much of the original blue, excellent grips and mechanically sound.  Serial number 1594 and appears on the Gvmt. list on page 93 of Charles Pate's book "SMITH & WESSON AMERICAN MODEL".  It is believed that all of these revolvers were issued to the 7th U.S. Cavalry for trials.  Very very rare.
