Very rare high condition Late Transitional Large Ring Hammer Mauser Broomhandle pistol and original shoulder stock. This variation was made in 1899, with s/n range between 20,000 and 21,000, total production volume was fewer than 1,000. This nice sample is a highly desirable VL&D variation among collectors.
Caliber 7.63x25mm (i.e. 30 Mauser). Barrel length 5.5”. Fixed front sight, adjustable 1-10 marked rear sight. Crown/Crown/U proof mark on left side of the chamber, and Oberndorf proof house antler stamp on the right side. Standard 3-line factory address text over the chamber top. Deep milling panels on both side of the frame, 23-groove walnut grip panels, completed with lanyard ring on the butt of the grip.
The pistol is in near mint condition. It has 98% original rust blue, and 95% original fire blue on small parts. No rust, no pits are found anywhere. All matching numbers inside and out, including grip panels and rear sight assembly. The stock is a period correct original large ring hammer stock in excellent condition, the serial number of the stock is a few hundred higher than the pistol. The bore has strong rifling, with minor frost between grooves near the muzzle.
