The receiver has the July 6, 1886 patent date. The barrel measures 30" from the muzzle to the throat and is half round and half octagon. Serial number is 3725. It wears an unmarked Vernier mid-range rear sight and an unmarked windgauge front sight. The bore is excellent and strong. The wood appears to be fairly high grade, I can find only one short crack- it comes off of the upper tang to the left of the rear tang screw and to the checkering. The stock feels stable and I'm sure the crack does not go thru. Have to say there is very minor pinprick pitting overall, the blue is mostly there but of course is browning. I removed the forearm and the satin blue under there is 100% and beautiful. The barrel is numbered to the rifle as is the forearm. Both are also marked 32-40. This is a rare, quality rifle of very limited production and as such is very desirable. I'm going out on a limb here and suggest that this rifle is underpriced. It is also an antique, so can be shipped directly to your home. Shipping on this piece will be $100. SOLD |
