Description:
The Winchester Model 61 was in essence the fourth version of a line of pump action rifles that Winchester produced in the rimfire .22 caliber, beginning with the 1890, 1906, which was discontinued in 1932. Following those slide actions, came the Model 62, which was discontinued in 1958. All these predecessor Winchester slide actions had exposed hammers where the new, Winchester Model 61 had an internal hammer. The Winchester Model 61 only came in a take-down version had a 24 inch round barrel, and a straight type, maple stock that also followed the design of previous models. With that being said, there were also were several special order features available from the factory, like sights for example. The fore end, or slide handle is grooved, like the WinchesterModel 12 shotgun, and for this reason collectors often pair the two.
