BRASS BARREL PERCUSSION GREAT COAT PISTOL BY GILLET OF BRISTOL CIRCA LATE 1820’S. 8” o/a with 3 ½” octagon brass barrel engraved “BRISTOL”. Finely engraved lock and hammer with hammer safety. Lock plate engraved with the maker “GILLET”. Very good quality checkered walnut stock with engraved brass trigger guard with acorn finial and very fine “LIONHEAD” embossed and gilded butt cap. Silver wedge escutcheons and original ramrod. Perfect working order and in excellent plus and all original condition. Small chip out of lip of hammer and nipple is mashed both of which are minor. James Gillet was a well known maker of the 1810-1830 period with premises at 24 Clare Street in Bristol. Extra nice example of a Great Coat pistol. SOLD Antique: Yes |
