WWII Springfield US M1 GARAND Infantry Rifle
"the greatest battle implement ever devised"
Here we present a Springfield U.S. M1 Garand Rifle, manufactured in 1944 at Springfield Armory in Massachusetts. This .30 caliber semi-automatic rifle was that standard U.S. service rifle during World War II and the Korean War. Most were issued to U.S. forces, though some were also provided as foreign aid to American allies. To say that it was and is highly regarded would be an understatement. In the words of General Patton, “In my opinion, the M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised.”
The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. RIFLE/CAL .30 M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY”. The serial number on the receiver puts production in March of 1944. The barrel is also marked “44” and the sling is marked “BOYT/44”. The left side of the stock is marked “S.A./G.A.W.” for Springfield Armory and the inspector, George A. Woody. There is also an Ordnance department mark with crossed cannons. There is a “Circle/P” on the pistol grip.
The overall condition is near fine. Surfaces are Parkerized and in great shape. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is sharp and bright. The stock is in great shape with clear cartouche. The action on this rifle is excellent.
