Inv. 6944 Colt U.S. 1911 Cal. .45acp, Ser. 283XXX. Awesome, only, one tiny blemish on the left side of the slide and possibly a scattered pinprick or two on this magnificent 100 year old "Black Army".
The rest of the gun is as it left the Colt factory in 1918. Flat out MINTY. The original factory finish is conservatively at 99.9%.
The seller for the estate said that the widow's husband was a 3 Star General and it was his "Foot Locker Queen". Judging by the other items he offered it certainly was. The left side of the frame is stamped with the correct JMG in Circle inspectors proof. All parts are correct for this serial number group as listed in U.S. Pistols and Revolvers 1909-1945, by J,C.Harrison.
The grips are the correct double diamond walnut without a blemish. Not even a flattened point. The grips screws, factory new. The barrel is the correct Colt factory barrel.and has the proper H P proof on the top.
The bore is mirror bright with razor sharp rifling. Judging by the slide rails, feed ramp and bolt face of the gun appear to be unfired.. It comes with one original Colt two tone magazine,which also appears unused.
It is definitely the Center Piece to any collection, however a little too pristine for frequent visits to the range $3950 shipped.
