Lock correctly signed “W. KETLAND/& CO.” as on the McCormick U.S. Contract Indian Rifle (see Moller Vol.2, pp.368-9) and with Brown Bess design features almost identical to the Springfield U.S. 1807 Indian Carbine but slightly larger for the musket. 100% original and in superb condition with all the original finish on the stock and the dark old patina mixed with original brown on the metal. Original flintlock configuration and not a reconversion and with all the original lock parts. Lock in working order. Even has the original sling swivels. The Bartlett’s were a well known Connecticut gun making family and contractors to the U.S. Government. Isack Bartlett is however listed as an employed U.S. Inspector at Springfield Armory for the year 1808 at the time of the production of these Indian Trade guns and rifles. Very rare and type supplied to our Indian Allies prior to and during the War of 1812. SOLD Antique: Yes |
