OUTSTANDING 1887 FANCY WALNUT LEVER ACTION 32” BARREL 10 GA. SHOTGUN, #55XXX, MADE 1894. The 1887 Shotgun is one of the most difficult of Winchester’s lever guns to find in excellent condition. It seems almost all that I encounter show very hard use and often abuse resulting in broken stocks, cut barrels, replaced butt plates, battered barrels and mag tubes and very rough black powder bores. This one is exceptional in that it still retains nice light case colors on the receiver- more pronounced on the left side and a bit more faded to cloudy gray with light color in the background on the right side. There is more vivid color in the protected areas. The lever sides also still show some good case color. The barrel blue is even and lightly aged/mixing a little plum. The stock and forearm slabs appears to be a good bit above standard grade walnut with some nice fiddle back grain to it. Wood to metal fit is excellent and tight. Exc. forend and tight action. Stock retains the original checkered steel butt plate. And amazingly, the bore is bright and excellent all the way through! 1887s like this are few and far between!
