There is a dizzying number of Fox Sterlingworth 12ga. guns for sale on the internet, and frankly the Sterlingworth is the very best buy on a vintage American double, period.  Built on a simple yet reliable box lock action and with classic American looks, this is a shotgun that has the same steel and internal workings of the highest-grade Fox guns that could cost you 10 times as much money. You can buy a nice SW that has been well cared for and is still tight and useable for an affordable sum of money, but how do you know which one to buy?  First and foremost, buy from a reputable seller that knows Fox shotguns well.  Second, look at the photos and see clearly what you are buying and pay attention to condition of the screws, the wood-to-metal fit, the condition of the wood, and see if there is any original factory case color and blue remaining on the gun.  Of course, you need to have photos that will actually let you see the gun!  You need to know if the barrels are sound, with clean bores and plenty of barrel wall thickness to safely shoot the gun with today’s modern loads.  Buying a Sterlingworth that has not had its stock cut, pad added, barrels cut, etc. is what you are looking for.  This gun, sn118132 built in 1925, is in very nice condition with all factory finishes on the metal and all parts are original to the gun.  The gun retains             75% factory case color, 958% factory barrel blue, mirror shiny bores, tight as new on face with the lever well right of center, excellent screws, superb wood-to-metal fit, crisp mechanics (a VFI CERTIFIED GUN…SEE BELOW),and surprisingly good stock dimensions.  If you want a well-worn gun to knock around you can find a cheaper Sterlingworth on the internet.  IF you want a really nice Sterlingworth this is the one.  We restored the wood and recut the checkering, so the gun looks awesome.  The 30” #2 weight barrels are choked M/F with tight ribs and factory bore diameters and a minimum barrel wall thickness of 27 thou.  The action has been stripped to its smallest parts and placed in our Ultrasonic cleaner, all parts scrubbed, polished, inspected for function and viability, properly lubricated and reassembled.  That makes this a VFI CERTIFIED GUN (a $275 service in our shop!) with a 90-day mechanical warranty.  Who offers you that on a 93-year-old gun?!  Weighing just 7lbs. 3oz. this gun is made for the fields or sporting clays course and can be afforded by anyone who has ever wanted a nice, high-condition Fox gun for their shooting pleasures.  Thanks for looking!
