Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1912, 12 Gauge, 7lbs 14oz, F/F, LOP 14 3/16" rear trigger, DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: 11984

The C Grade Fox is considered to be one of the most handsome of the A.H. Fox Graded guns, with its finely cut English scroll and game scene engraving, European walnut stocks well figured on both sides, and was the first level of decoration considered a high-grade Fox.  We get to see them often enough for sale on the internet, and most are guns that have lots of drop at the heel, poor restorations or repairs, short stocks, and are just so-so in the looks department.  If you look long and hard you find a FOX CE THAT IS SOMETHING SPECIAL…AND THIS ONE IS EXCEPTIONAL!  This Fox CE 12ga., sn11984 built in 1912, is a special-order gun with many unique features.  The factory information tells us the gun was ordered without a safety, 32” heavy #1 weight barrels, F/F chokes, Silvers pad, and a straight-hand stock.  It was obviously ordered by a serious shooter as a “live bird gun” as it has all the proper characteristics as noted above and stock dimensions of 2 1/8” drop at heel and 1 ½” drop at the nose of the comb, which are high stock dimensions for the era, meant to shoot rising birds.  Purpose built live bird guns always received special attention at the factory, as the company’s reputation rode on the success of live bird champions and the publicity garnered from winning these “high-society” events.  The barrels are over-bored to .738 bore diameter, much like the Super Fox.  This was common for special order live bird guns from Fox and other makers as well.  Additionally, the gun is stocked with exceptionally well figured French walnut with a VERY SPECIAL CHECKERING PATTERN YOU WILL LIKELY NOT SEE AGAIN.  This is the original wood that came on the gun from the factory.  I have been an avid Fox man for 25 years and this is the only original A.H. Fox I have seen with the arrowhead shaped drop points, special border layout, and fine 24 LPI checkering cut to perfection.  We do see D Grade Fox guns with arrow head “flors” carved into the checkering, but not as drop points.  The factory order card is very difficult to read, and we do not have the back of the card to see the notes, but this was a special built gun.  The single selective trigger is not specifically mentioned but is surely factory original as the specified trigger pull is  3  ½ lbs.  This refers to one trigger, not triggers, and there is not a second pull weight mentioned as there would be on two trigger guns.  I have owned this gun since 2011 and have been personally involved with every aspect of the restoration.  The entire gun is spotless inside and out, with perfect mechanics, screws, and wood finish.  This is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY, having been stripped to the smallest part, Ultrasonic cleaned, all parts scrubbed and polished and inspected for function and integrity.  All parts are properly lubricated, the barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, the trigger functions to perfection with crisp trigger pulls.  The bores are perfect, ribs are tight, and the engraving and lettering are sharp and clear.  The Turnbull case colors and charcoal blued trigger guard are historically correct for the age of the gun.  Not only is this a shooting machine, but it is one of the most stunningly beautiful A.H. Fox CE Grade guns you will ever lay your eyes on, looking new as it came from the factory.  To have a Fox restored to this level costs well over $5000 and you would not see your gun for over a year.  This gun is complete and ready to go right now.  You will never have another opportunity to own such a special A.H. Fox live bird gun.  Thanks for looking
