Description:
This Finnish M39 Mosin Nagant is a very interesting rifle.  The Model 39 is widely considered the best Mosin Nagant variation ever produced, and was used with great success by the Finnish Army in World War 2.  The M39 is the most sought-after Finnish Mosin Nagant model by collectors today and bring a significant premium over some of the earlier models.  This particular example is a VKT (Valmet) manufactured example from 1944, serial number 71389.  It appears to be all-original but is somewhat confusing as the bolt serial number matches the number on the VKT barrel but it has the Sako gear logo at the rear.  In addition to that, the original wartime production spliced stock has the crossed cannon with an "S" stamp used by the stock subcontractor of VKT called Sakara Oy, but it also has the Sako gear logo stamped beside it.  The barrel also has Sako's test firing proof of "3600" stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver. Our best guess is that the VKT manufactured rifle was sent to Sako for repairs at some point, at which time Sako replaced the bolt and numbered it to the rifle, repaired/inspected the existing original stock, and then test fired it.  The barrel would have been stamped with the "3600" proof at that point, and the stock would have been stamped with the large Sako gear logo as inspected and ready to send back.  This M39 has a great battle-used look to it with an even patina to the original bluing.  As you can see in the pictures provided it shows a lot of handling and use marks in the original stock but it is still structually sound.  There is a small crack behind the upper rear tang and one that runs behind the triggerguard on the left side back into the pistol grip, but both of them do not open or move despite our efforts to torque them.  These both appear to be completely stable.  There is a crack in the upper handguard just ahead of the rear sight.  This one will spread if pressed on but would be an easy repair if the new owner so chooses.  The bore in this M39 is dark but shows strong rifling.  It should still shoot great.  All of the controls on this rifle work 100% like they were designed to.  The headspace is good and the bolt works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly.  This rifle is import marked on the top of the barrel from Inter Ordnance.  This M39 comes with an original WW2 Finnish leather military sling.  These M39s are getting harder and harder to find as they are no longer being imported from what we have learned.  If you have been looking for one that is all-original and has a battle used look to it, this VKT / Sako example would be a great choice.  It would be an excellent addition to any WW2 military rifle collection and would also be a lot of fun at the range.
