SWEDISH Antique Model 1859 CAVALRY Pistol-Carbine
Large, Big-Bore Single Shot Percussion Pistol
Here we present an antique Swedish Model 1859 Cavalry Pistol-Carbine, made circa 1859. This pistol represents the last hurrah of the large-bore, single shot, percussion pistol as cartridges and repeaters became mainstream throughout Europe. In some ways, this pistol would have been quite analogous to the short-lived U.S. Model 1855 Pistol-Carbine. This pistol features large, robust hardware. The iron back strap has a provision for a shoulder stock, though the one the belonging to this example has been lost throughout the years. The back of the hammer is equipped with a notch that allows the hook to hold the hammer off the primer to act as a safety. To fire, simply fully cock the hammer and the hook slips off.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in fair condition, having a stable crack as many of these cavalry pistols do. The bore is dark. The action on this pistol is excellent.
