Description:
This is a Marlin Model 39 Century Ltd., a rifle that the Marlin firm produced in 1970 only to commemorate their 1870 to 1970 Centennial.  It features a 20" inch octagon barrel, a brass Marlin medallion on the right side of the receiver featuring the dates 1870 & 1970 and a mounted cowboy, and a select Walnut straight-grip stock with a brass forend cap and buttplate, along with a brass name plate on the right side of the buttstock.  There were a total of 35,388 made during the one year of production in 1970.  This example is serial number 18,975 and it is in excellent overall condition.  The original factory gloss blue finish rates approx. 95%, with some small spots of finish wear on the the lever and in places where metal to metal contact occurs when the lever is worked (side of hammer, lever hinge area).  While this handsome little rimfire lever action appears to have been fired, it has been very well cared for and lightly used.  The bore is pristine and bright in this Model 39.  The bore shows perfect "Micro-Groove" rifling with no visible pitting, bulges, or imperfections whatsoever.  The receiver is factory drilled and tapped for both optics and a receiver-mounted peep sight, with the holes currently filled with factory removable plug screws.  The original factory gold finish on the trigger is in great shape, with only just a hair of finish wear on the edges if you look closely.  The original select Walnut stock set is in superb condition.  Only under very close inspection can any small handling/storage marks be seen.  The gloss wood finish is still in beautiful shape and fully intact, and the wood is free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  The brass hardware that Marlin put on this model only is all in place and in great shape.  The brass shows some tarnish from age but could be polished back to bright if the new owner so chooses.  The combination of blued metal, brass, and beautiful Walnut that Marlin used in this model is very attractive.  All of the controls and the action of this Marlin work 100% like the day it left the factory.  The bolt works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly.  The lever is nice and tight to the tang when the bolt is closed with no slop in it.  The hammer still has both the safety position and full cock, and the trigger is very good on this rifle, breaking nicely with no grit and with minimal poundage.  If you have been looking for a top quality .22 rimfire lever action for your collection this would be an excellent choice.  This Marlin is a scarce model and should be an excellent long term investment as well as a superb shooter.  As long as proper care is taken it could be enjoyed at the range and in the field without harming it's investment value.
