The “big boy” of double rifles…the Norsman .600 Nitro Express. This massive dangerous game double was custom built in 1999/2000 by M A Dees at Norsman Sporting Arms in Havre, MT. The boxlock action is from a 10 gauge Belgian Guild gun and the mono block was fitted with Pac-Nor barrels. The hefty action is ideally suited for the massive front end of the 27 ½” long .600 barrels. Lock-up is provided by two underlug locks and a barrel extension with a Greener style cross bolt and just for good measure..side clips. It has a non-automatic safety, double triggers and extractors. The English walnut was carefully selected for both strength and the handsome grain. As mentioned the Pac-Nor barrels were fitted to the mono block and fitted with a quarter rib with on standing 50 yard blade and one folding 150 yard blade along with a raised front sight with a red bead. The gun consistently shot sub 2” groups at 100 yards using Bertram brass, Woodleigh bullets and 145 grains of IMR 7828. Proof tested well beyond that load! To finish the gun it was engraved by Mark Hoechse in a well executed, tight scroll and embellished with a gold inlaid rhino on the grip cap. Spectacular rifle that weighs 14 lbs. 9 oz. Talking to the former principal at Norsman this gun was over $40k when made.
